please help us find people who have pursued a career outside academia!

Dear all,

The APS postdoctoral society is organising a seminar on alternative career paths outside academia and would like to present results from a survey of people who have previously worked or studied in APS (including Masters and PhD students, postdocs, technicians, lecturers etc), or another biological sciences department, and are now pursuing a career outside academia (i.e. outside a university environment) or in a different field to their initial studies or career.

We would be very grateful if you could please forward the survey (please see below) on to anyone you have worked with in the past, (or email me any information you may have about them and I will try to track them down!).

Thank you so much for your help!

We are writing on behalf of the University of Sheffield Animal and Plant Sciences (APS) Postdoctoral Society to ask if you can please help us complete a short questionnaire about your career path. There are ten questions which should only take a few moments of your time.

The survey link is:

We are hoping to organise a seminar for postdoctoral researchers in APS, as part of our training and development program, to highlight possible alternative career paths outside academia. A member of the department has very kindly passed on your details as someone who has studied or worked here in APS or in another biological sciences department, and is now pursuing a career outside academia (i.e. outside a university environment), or in a different field to their initial studies or career. During the seminar we plan to have a few speakers outlining their career path since leaving academia, but would very much like to compile results from this questionnaire to give a broader summary of other career options that may be available, the reasons people have left academia or chosen a different field, and any advice you can give about career decisions.

Please note that all information given will be treated as confidential, you will not be identified and the information you give will not be used for any other purpose.

If you have any problems with the SurveyMonkey form, or have further comments, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you very much for your time, we very much value your contribution!
