Job!
The hihi conservation project (http://www.hihiconservation.com/) is looking for someone to help with microsatellite genotyping of around 800 hihi (stitchbird; Notiomystis cincta) blood and feather samples. The work will take around 4 weeks full time, hopefully from around mid October. We are happy to discuss working part time (although it would be great to have the samples done by the end of the year). The labwork will be based at the Institute of Zoology, Zoological Society of London, in the lovely Regent’s Park.
For more details please contact Patricia Brekke (patricia.brekke@ioz.ac.uk) or Anna Santure (a.santure@auckland.ac.nz)

Free Online course- Earth Observation and Climate Change
Take a look on this new MOOC on Earth Observation and Climate Change that I helped develop:
https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/climate-from-space
It’s a free online course, where leading experts and scientists from ESA and key European research centres (including UoB), introduce and explore the science that underpins Earth observation. It starts on June.

Carol concerts this week?
Hi all- if you are interested I am singing in two free(!) carol concerts this week (as part of Stannington Mixed Voice Choir). These are on Thursday evening (Knowle Top Chapel, Stannington 7.30pm) and then on Friday evening at a Church near(ish) the big Tescos on Infirmary Road (I can’t seem to find the address of this one at the moment but if you are interested in going let me know). We will be singing carols local to Sheffield and some other really nice carols. It should be very Christmassy!
Thanks, Andy.

Want to learn the local Sheffield Carols?
A few of us are going to these sessions..wanna come along? See below 🙂 Cheers, Andy.
By popular demand the local carol workshops will be held again this year for University staff and friends – a chance to sing some well known, and less well-known, Christmas carols many originating from the villages to the north of Sheffield. There will be two sessions this year:
Friday 12 December
Friday 19 December
from 12.30 to 1.50 pm
(come and go as you please – no need to book)
The venue is St Andrew’s URC Church on Hanover Way (the church with the spire on the ring road near University tram stop).
If you have a copy of “The Blue Book” – “The Joy of Christmas” please bring this with you, otherwise the carols will be available on the day.
You are welcome to bring friends – the more the merrier – and we will be joined by members of Broomhall Community Choir and Worrall Male Voice Choir.
The workshop will be led by Nigel Russell and Stephen Vickers.
We look forward to seeing you!
